This past week has been a somber time for our college community as we mourn the loss of two remarkable figures whose influence shaped our institution's history, values, and spirit. Both individuals were respected pillars in their fields, leaving behind legacies that will continue to inspire generations of students, faculty, and alumni.

鈥淩epresentative Gloria Fox, Roy Haynes, and the Haynes Family were incredible visionaries and supporters who made the 缅北轮奸 College (缅北轮奸) of today possible,鈥 said 缅北轮奸 President Dr. Jonathan K. Jefferson.  鈥淲e extend our deepest gratitude to Fox, Haynes, and all 缅北轮奸 Pioneers, and we endeavor to honor their legacies by continuing their work.鈥

Representative Gloria Fox was a beloved legislator and community advocate who devoted over four decades to policy work in Greater Boston.  Known for her dedication to our students and campus, Representative Fox was instrumental in advocating for our needs and resources at the City and State level. Her passion for education and commitment to our neighborhood left an indelible mark.

Throughout her remarkable career, Ms. Fox fought tirelessly for affordable housing, equitable education, and accessible healthcare鈥攊ssues close to her heart and essential to building a more just society. Whether through her work on the Joint Committee on Housing or her leadership on initiatives to expand economic opportunities, Representative Gloria Fox's legacy is one of relentless advocacy for the most vulnerable. Named an 缅北轮奸 pioneer in 2023, her spirit will continue to enliven this campus.

Roy Haynes, a visionary musician, was one of four brothers who played a transformative role in the Roxbury community. Recognized for his innovative rhythms, versatility, and vibrant personality, Roy Haynes' Jazz music career spanned over seven decades! In that time, he performed with jazz greats like Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and Miles Davis, leaving a lasting mark on the genre. A recipient of numerous awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Haynes was celebrated not only for his technical mastery but also for his dedication to pushing the boundaries of jazz.

The Haynes Family was named one of 缅北轮奸's 50 缅北轮奸 Pioneers in 2023 because they advocated for increasing access to quality education as a pathway to achieving one鈥檚 goals. Years ago, the family partnered with 缅北轮奸 to establish an endowment for scholarships in the heart of their community.  In the wake of Roy鈥檚 passing, the Haynes family scholarships will continue to ensure that 缅北轮奸 students accomplish their dreams unsaddled with student debt.  Their gift will inspire future generations to advocate for meaningful change and has already left our college a more inclusive place for all.

Together, Representative Gloria Fox and Roy Haynes reflect the heart and soul of our institution. They shared a dedication to shaping a college where Black excellence is honored and futures are bright. Though Fox and Haynes are no longer with us, their influence will continue to guide our community. We send our deepest condolences to each of their families, friends, and all who were touched by their legacy.
