As we draw to the close of one of the most challenging years in recent memory, I find solace and hope in the many amazing things that are still happening in our community, especially at Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é College.
Responding to the COVID-19 pandemic as an institution was a challenge, but the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é community banded together and worked extraordinarily hard to ensure that our students were successful. Since March, Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é has distributed over 330 laptops and 60 WiFi hotspots, equipping students with the technology required for academic success. Additionally, we awarded $25,000 in need-based aid and provided 148 students with Stop & Shop gift cards, to help address food insecurity.
On the academic front, I am thrilled to announce that in October, BORN granted initial approval to Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é’s new Nursing Program! We will welcome our first class in thefall 2021 semester. Additionally, our Professional Education Department teamed up with Google and CompTIA to launch a new Google IT Support Professional Certificate.
In early December, I was pleased to have the opportunity to work with the Roxbury Community College Foundation (Ãå±±ÂÖ¼éF) to continue our Legends of Roxbury series. This year, we honored three pioneers in the field of broadcast media — Rev. Liz Walker, Carmen Fields, and Sarah-Ann Shaw — while raising funds to support Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é students.
, you will learn more about Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é’s impressive suite of healthcare programs, our continued community support efforts, and much more.
In these difficult times, I encourage you to continue to prioritize the health and wellbeing of yourselves and your families. Take good care, and I look forward to seeing you back on campus when the time comes.
Dr. Valerie Roberson
President, Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é College
